What does it mean for the SRC to be approved as an IRS 501(c)(3) public charity?

  • As a 501(c)(3), charitable donations to SRC are allowed as tax deductions by the IRS, and also makes SRC eligible to receive additional “matching funds” for donations made by individuals working for various employers in the area. Please consult with a financial advisor or tax professional to understand how charitable donations would impact your tax status.
  • As a 501(c)(3), charitable donations to SRC may be eligible for matching funds for charitable domains by many employers in this area (Microsoft, Google, Boeing, T-Mobile, Starbucks, and many others). This means that any charitable donations you make could be “matched” (doubled) by your employer as a benefit. The Somerset Recreation Club will greatly benefit from matching funds for donations to apply to operational costs and planned renovations. Please consider this if your employee offers this benefit.
  • As a 501(c)(3), charitable donations to SRC may be eligible for matching funds for volunteering time by some employers in this area (Microsoft and others). This means that any time you spend volunteering to help SRC could have “matching” funds donated by your employer as a benefit. The Somerset Recreation Club will greatly benefit from matching funds for volunteer activities to apply to operational costs and planned renovations. Please consider this if your employee offers this benefit.
  • 501(c)(3) tax-exemptions from the United States Internal Revenue Service apply to entities that are organized and operated exclusively for religious, charitable, scientific, literary, or educational purposes, or for testing for public safety, or to foster national or international amateur sports competition, or for the prevention of cruelty to children or animals. The Somerset Recreation Club is defined and approved as a 501(c)(3) public charity.

I work for an employer with a matching funds program. How can I donate to SRC and ensure that the funds I donate are matched by my employer?

  • Many employers in the area (Microsoft, Starbucks, and others) subcontract managing their charitable giving programs to a 3rd party company Benevity (http://www.benevity.com/workplacegiving/), and SRC has registered and is approved as a charity in their system. To donate matching funds from either money, time/services, or good donated to SRC, please do the following:
    • Go to the website for your company for charitable donations/matching funds
    • Search for “Somerset Recreation Club”, or a Tax ID/EIN is required search for “91-0858203”
    • Complete the requested information to donate matching funds from either money, time/services, or good donated to SRC
